Most of the time, you can’t see comments on Facebook because the post is sorted by Most relevant. On Page posts and on profiles with a big following, Facebook ranks the comments and shows only a selection first, so the comment count can be far higher than the list you actually see. Tap the Most relevant label above the comments and choose All comments or Newest comments, and the rest usually appear.

If switching the order doesn’t bring them back, one of three things is usually going on. Someone hid or filtered the comment, you don’t have access to it, or the app or browser isn’t loading the comment section properly. The table below helps you work out which one it is.

Start With What You’re Seeing

The symptom points to the cause. A comment count that doesn’t match the list means something very different from a comment section that never loads.

The Comment Order Is Hiding Them

Facebook’s comment order help page explains that when you see Most relevant above the comments, they have been ranked. Comments from your friends, from verified profiles and Pages, and the ones with the most likes and replies go to the top. Everything else is pushed down, which is why a busy post can look strangely quiet.

To change it, tap or click the current order label on the post. You may need to tap View more comments first. You then get three choices. Newest comments shows every comment with the latest first. All comments shows everything, “including potential spam,” with the most relevant still at the top. Most relevant puts you back to the ranked view.

Ranking isn’t applied to every post. It switches on by default for Pages and for profiles that have built up a large number of Facebook followers, which is why a busy creator’s post shows fewer comments than a friend’s holiday photo. Facebook Live videos always rank comments, whatever the owner has chosen, so on a live stream you will usually need to change the order yourself.

Someone Hid or Filtered the Comment

If the sort order isn’t the problem, the comment was probably hidden. Hiding is different from deleting, and that difference explains most of the confusion.

The Post Owner Hid It

The owner of a post can hide any comment on it. According to Facebook’s hide or delete a comment page, a hidden comment is still visible to the person who wrote it and to their friends. Everyone else the post was shared with can no longer see it, and any replies to it are hidden too. Deleting is final, because a deleted comment is removed from the post for everyone.

Want your Facebook page to actually get seen?

A Keyword or Profanity Filter Caught It

Profiles and Pages can block up to 1,000 keywords from their comments, including phrases and emoji. Facebook also hides common variations such as misspellings, plurals and words written with numbers or symbols. Pages can switch on a profanity filter as well. When a comment matches, it’s hidden automatically, but the person who wrote it and their friends can still see it.

Moderation Assist Hid It Automatically

Pages and profiles in professional mode can use Moderation Assist, a tool that hides new comments matching criteria the owner sets. A common example is hiding every new comment that includes a link or an image. Facebook’s Moderation Assist page says it only acts on comments made after the criteria are created, and the commenter and their friends can still see what it hid.

When the Missing Comment Is Yours

This is the case that catches most people out. If your comment was hidden or filtered, you and your friends still see it as normal, so from your side nothing looks wrong. The only reliable check is to ask someone who isn’t on your friends list whether they can see it.

Your Activity log keeps a list of every comment you’ve left, and it’s the same place you go to find liked videos on Facebook. If the comment is listed there but others can’t see it on the post, it was most likely hidden or filtered rather than deleted.

""

You Don’t Have Access to Those Comments

Sometimes the comments exist and are visible, just not to you. Blocking is the most common reason. Facebook’s help on what blocking does says it limits interacting with each other’s posts and comments, so you usually won’t see comments from someone you’ve blocked or who has blocked you. You may still come across some of their activity through mutual friends.

The post’s audience matters too. By default everyone can comment on a public post, but the owner can change that under Settings & privacy, Settings, Followers and public content, then Who can comment on your public posts? The options are Public, Friends and Friends of friends. If you set comments to Friends, followers who aren’t friends can read the post but can’t reply, so it helps to see who follows you on Facebook before you choose.

In groups, admins, moderators and the person who wrote the post can turn off commenting completely. Facebook may also remove comments that break its Community Standards, and it can limit what your own account is allowed to do. If you suspect a restriction, open your profile menu and check Account Status, which shows whether any of your content or features have been limited.

Comments Won’t Load at All

A blank comment section, a spinning loader or a count with nothing beneath it is usually a loading problem rather than a setting. Facebook’s own troubleshooting page lists the same basic fixes for each device, and they’re worth trying in order.

On a Phone

Update the Facebook app first, then make sure you’re on reliable Wi-Fi or mobile data. Close and reopen the app, and if nothing changes, restart the phone.

On Android, many people who saw empty comment sections in spring 2026 were on the beta version of the app. Leaving the beta program from the Facebook listing in the Play Store, then uninstalling and reinstalling the standard app, fixed it for a lot of them.

On a Computer

Refresh the page, or close it and open it again. Clear your browser’s cache from its settings, then try the post in a different browser. Browser extensions that change how Facebook looks, such as ad blockers or feed cleaners, can also stop comments from loading, so switch them off one at a time to find the culprit.

If comments still won’t load, report it. On a computer, go to Help & Support and choose Report a problem. If other people report the same thing on the same day, the problem may be on Facebook’s side, and waiting is the only fix.

""

Fixes for Page Owners and Creators

If people tell you they can’t see comments on your posts, the settings on your side are the first place to look. You can turn comment ranking off so every comment shows in the order it arrived. On a Page, switch into the Page, open Settings & privacy, then Settings, then Followers and public content, and turn off Show most relevant comments first. Profiles with a large following have the same toggle in the same place.

It’s also worth reviewing what your filters have hidden. In the Professional Dashboard, open All tools and then Comments manager. You can search comments from the past 90 days and switch between Visible comments, Hidden comments and All comments. If a keyword list is catching ordinary words, trim it so genuine replies aren’t hidden from the rest of your audience.

Questions About Facebook Comments Not Showing

Why doesn’t the comment count match the comments I can see?
The count includes comments that you can’t see. Some are hidden by the owner or a filter, some are ranked down as possible spam, and some may come from people you’ve blocked. Switching to All comments shows most of them, but hidden ones stay invisible to you.

Can I make Facebook always show All comments?
Not as a viewer. Facebook’s help only describes changing the order on each post, and there’s no setting that makes All comments your permanent default. Page owners and creators can switch ranking off for their own posts, which changes what everyone sees there.

Why can’t I see all comments on a Facebook Live?
Facebook Live always ranks comments, even when the owner has turned ranking off for their other posts. Change the order on the video to Newest comments or All comments to see everything.

Why do comments show on my phone but not on my computer?
That almost always points to the browser. A stale cache or an extension that changes Facebook pages can block the comment section. Clear the cache, turn off extensions and try another browser before assuming anything is wrong with the post.

Get More Comments Worth Reading

Once the comments are back, the next step is getting better ones. A post that ends with a clear, specific question gives people an easy reason to reply, which a plain statement rarely does. Replying to the first few comments quickly also helps, because it shows people that the conversation is active and worth joining.

Keep your filters sensible too. A short list of genuinely offensive words protects the thread, while a long list of everyday terms quietly hides the replies you actually want. Check your hidden comments now and then and unhide anything caught by mistake.

A new Page with a quiet comment section can also start with a small base of Facebook comments, so the first real visitors see a conversation they can join.
